The estimate is a median. Your price depends on your flood zone, elevation and coverage. Insurox compares quotes from 35+ insurance companies, NFIP and private, for your address.

How the estimate is made

  • It uses real quotes. Every figure is a median of flood insurance quotes that carriers returned through Insurox in the last 24 months. Nothing is modelled.
  • It starts with your ZIP code. Where a ZIP code has fewer than 20 quoted properties, it uses the county, then the state, and tells you which.
  • Flood zone comes first. A figure for your flood zone across the county or state is used before an all-zones figure for the ZIP code, because the zone moves the price more. It does not leave your state to find one.
  • Coverage is a rough adjustment. If you enter an amount, the price per $1,000 of coverage in those quotes is multiplied by it.
  • It cannot see your building. Elevation, foundation, deductible and claims history all change a real quote.

Common questions

How much does flood insurance cost per month?
From Oct 2024 to Oct 2026, the lowest private flood insurance quote in the United States ran $794 a year, about $66 a month, and the typical private quote ran $1,859 a year, about $155 a month. NFIP quotes ran $2,112 a year, about $176 a month. These are medians of quotes run through Insurox, and your own price depends on your property.
Does my flood zone change the price?
Yes. Across the United States, properties in high-risk A zones were quoted a typical $2,673 a year for private flood insurance, against $916 in moderate to low risk X zones. If you do not know your zone, leave it as "Not sure" and the estimate covers every zone.
How does the calculator work?
It looks up real flood insurance quotes for the ZIP code you enter. Where a ZIP code has fewer than 20 quoted properties it uses the county, then the state, and says which one it used. It shows the median of the cheapest private quote each property received, the median of the typical private quote and the median NFIP quote.
Is this a flood insurance quote?
No. It is a statistic about quotes that other properties received. A real quote depends on your flood zone, elevation, foundation, coverage and deductible. To see prices for your address, start a quote with your ZIP code.
